The role of the General Practitioner in Pediatric Emergency Care is designed to enhance the capacity of our Pediatric Emergency Department, aiding in the comprehension of future urgent care needs.
Key Responsibilities
As a General Practitioner in Pediatric Emergency Care, you will collaborate with a diverse multidisciplinary team, managing a dedicated queue of pediatric cases that are suitable for primary care and do not necessitate advanced medical intervention. You will receive comprehensive support from the entire Emergency Department team, including the on-call Consultant when necessary.
Primary Duties
- Oversee urgent care presentations appropriate for GP intervention, ensuring timely assessments and treatments by the most suitable healthcare professionals.
- Efficiently manage a pediatric patient queue during your shifts, aiming to see approximately four patients per hour, depending on the complexity of cases.
- Foster a collaborative relationship with Emergency Department staff, committing to the provision of high-quality and consistent care as an integral team member.
- Make independent, professional decisions regarding patient presentations, whether self-referred or referred by other healthcare providers within the department.
- Maintain accurate and timely consultation records using established templates and coding on the clinical management system.
- Participate in data collection for audit purposes and ensure compliance with national prescribing guidelines.
- Uphold the policies and standards of the department while managing requests for appropriate investigations.
