The Role
As a Yard Operative at Lawsons Whetstone, you will be a key member of the warehouse and yard team, responsible for delivering exceptional customer service in the yard and warehouse. Your primary focus will be on providing accurate and efficient picking and packing of products, ensuring that stock is replenished, rotated, and merchandised to meet customer needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurate picking of products, checking quality and quantity prior to packing and loading.
- Ensure that stock is replenished, rotated, and merchandised to meet customer needs.
- Safe and secure packing and loading of products on or into collecting vehicles, customer, or supplier.
- Accurate completion of all paperwork.
- Provide customers and suppliers with excellent service and attention in the yard.
- Unloading and checking of all received deliveries into the yard from either customer or supplier.
- Efficient and safe storage of received deliveries into appropriate locations, observing company policies and Health and Safety.
- Maintain Yard Standards in line with yard audit criteria.
- Correct reporting and management of any damaged or compromised products or materials.
- Assist in the company stock management process.
- Maintain the yard to a high standard of tidiness and cleanliness.
- Keeping the Yard tidy, organized, and clear of hazards and obstructions at all times.
- Correct and safe use of all mechanical equipment and machinery.
- Observe company dress code, including the correct and appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
- The safe and secure custody of company property, stock, equipment, materials, and other forms of asset, including information.
- Carry out any other reasonable task as requested by your line manager.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a yard at a builders' merchant is essential.
- A live and valid forklift license is essential.
- Up-to-date forklift training certificate.
- A positive and approachable attitude.
- Good product knowledge within the industry.
- Professionalism and the ability to promote and adhere to the company's values.
- Good interpersonal skills, confidence, and the ability to approach customers.
- A good problem solver, logically minded, and good math skills.
- Good understanding of stock control principles.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Able to work to and maintain set company standards.
- Good numeracy and the ability to read picking tickets/delivery notes.
- Good time management.
What We Offer:
- Salary £26,500 - £28,500 depending on experience.
- 23 Days Holiday + Bank Holidays rising to 25 Days holiday plus a one-day celebration day + Bank Holidays.
