Fixed Term for 18 Months due to training.

This apprenticeship program serves as a structured entry pathway into Hospital-Based Healthcare for individuals without prior experience in Health or Care, and we actively encourage applications from recent school graduates.

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will be employed by NHS Scotland, gaining hands-on experience in our hospital wards while attending a local college on a day release schedule.

If you possess a qualification in Health or Care or have prior experience in Healthcare/Social Care, we recommend exploring other opportunities within NHS Scotland.

Shortlisting Criteria

To be eligible for an interview, your application must clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

  • Have achieved at least two National 5/SCQF Level 5 qualifications, including one in English/ESOL, and a National 4/SCQF Level 4 in a Maths subject. A National 5/SCQF Level 5 qualification in a Science, Care, Healthcare, or Childcare subject is preferred.
  • Be aged between 16 to 24 years old on the specified date, or up to 29 years for Disabled or Care Experienced applicants.
  • Be a resident of Scotland with the legal right to live and work in the UK. For more information on Apprenticeship Eligibility Criteria, please visit the relevant section.
  • Complete the assessment question section of the application form in full to demonstrate the skills and qualities required for this position.

About the Program

As a Modern Apprentice Healthcare Support Specialist, you will be employed by NHS Scotland throughout your training, receiving support to obtain a recognized vocational qualification in Healthcare.

You will collaborate with the Nursing Team, assisting colleagues in delivering patient care and supporting patients with daily living activities.

This program aligns with the Modern Apprenticeship Healthcare Support (Clinical) Framework, completed over 18 months, during which you will work towards achieving the following:

· Scottish Vocational Qualification in Healthcare Support (Clinical) at Level 7

· NHS Scotland Extended Clinical Skills Training Program for Healthcare Support Workers

· NHS Scotland Mandatory Induction Standards for Healthcare Support Workers

· Demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and satisfactory workplace progression to facilitate your transition into a Healthcare Support Worker role at Band 3.

You will be appointed to this Modern Apprenticeship Program as a Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker under Annex 21 Terms and Conditions, which means that during your training, you will earn a percentage of the top of the NHS Agenda for Change Band 3 Salary Scale or the Scottish Living Wage, whichever is higher.
