Specialty Doctor in General Adult Psychiatry

We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Specialty Doctor to join our team at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and support to our Willow ward and Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service.

Willow ward is a 16-bed mixed ward for service users of adult working age, providing inpatient psychiatric assessments, treatment, and care to help reduce risk of harm to self and others. The post is a split role, with 4 days on Willow ward and 1 day supporting the EIP team.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Attend ward reviews and multidisciplinary team meetings
  2. Carry out ward reviews when the consultant is away
  3. Admit patients during working hours
  4. Attend to urgent clinical issues for patients on the ward
  5. Supervise the completion of discharge summaries for patients
  6. Administrative work related to these activities
  7. Support trainee doctors and work with the multidisciplinary team
  8. Attend weekly supervision with the consultant
Requirements
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and Section 12 (2) approval under the Mental Health Act 1983
Skills and Experience
  • Clinical judgement and experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
  • Relevant specialty clinical knowledge and capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job and specialty
  • Practical skills and proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings
  • Experience of working within Adult Psychiatry
Transport and Disclosure
  • Holds and will use a valid UK driving licence or provides evidence of proposed alternative
  • Subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check
