At G&H Torquay, we specialize in the production of advanced active and passive fibre optic components and modules, designed to meet the rigorous demands of various applications globally. We are seeking a dedicated Product Engineer to join our Product Engineering team. In this role, you will be accountable for fulfilling business performance commitments to essential stakeholders and managing all aspects of New Product Introduction (NPI) projects assigned to you, following the established NPI framework, product design, and process design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transition new products from initial prototypes to full-scale manufacturing, ensuring they meet specifications and cost-efficiency targets.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the NPI process, alongside the requirements of our current (ISO9001) and future (AS9100) quality management systems.
  • Ensure all assigned projects are fully compliant with site accreditations and collaborate with the quality manager to implement any recommended quality enhancements.
  • Adhere to deadlines while maintaining transparent communication with all stakeholders.
  • Effectively deploy NPI processes, achieving all design milestone objectives.
  • Utilize project management tools such as Gantt charts and Project Status reports to assist Product Engineering projects, focusing on agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Lead the implementation of quality improvements, including managing and maintaining Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and introducing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical support for the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) process as necessary.
  • Ensure timely classification and distribution of assigned Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to identify opportunities for process cost reductions.
  • Support ongoing production efforts where product knowledge is required.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Degree in Engineering (Optics, Electronics, Mechanical, Software) or a related scientific field, or equivalent professional experience. Experience in photonics is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment, with a background in photonics or fibre optics being advantageous.
  • Proficient in technical design, process development, and project management.
  • Strong internal presentation skills.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting is essential.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools, with the ability to implement these in a multidisciplinary team context.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety standards sufficient to conduct and manage risk assessments effectively.
