About the Role

We are seeking an exceptional Colorectal and General Surgeon to join our dynamic team at Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. As a Consultant Surgeon, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, leading clinical services, and contributing to the development of our surgical team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide general in-patient and outpatient adult care, including out-of-hours on-call commitment.
  • Lead, develop, and organize services in line with the Trust's business plans.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with the Lead Clinician, Senior Management, and administration teams for Surgery and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Develop your own interests and sub-specialties within the specialty, in line with business planning principles and commissioners' approval.
  • Facilitate patient cover when on leave or working away from the Royal London main hospital site.

Person Specification
  • MBBS, or equivalent qualification.
  • FRCS, or qualification of an equivalent level.
  • On the GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of obtaining this via CCT, CESR, or European Community Rights.
Knowledge and Training
  • Widespread broad-based knowledge of all aspects of General and Colorectal Surgery.
  • Evidence of subspecialty knowledge of IBD and IF.
  • Higher Specialist Training in Colorectal Surgery.
  • Experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates.
  • Evidence of sub-specialist training in pelvic floor surgery.
Management and Audit Experience
  • Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy.
  • Ability to support team members in business planning via collaboration and discussion.
Academic Achievements
  • Ability to demonstrate personal experience of clinical research and describe and discuss findings and impact.
  • Experience of research, presentations to learned societies on topics related to surgery.
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical/surgical problems.
