Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Council is seeking to appoint a Senior Repairs Officer to enhance our team. This position is based in Great Wenham, Suffolk and offers a full-time, permanent role. The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from £42,403 to £49,498 per annum (pro rata for part-time).
Flexible working arrangements including full-time, part-time, and job share options will be considered.
Position Overview
We are in search of a Senior Repairs Officer to become a vital part of our newly established Housing Operations and Direct Labour Organisation (DLO) Team. The ideal candidate will be motivated and align with our values, demonstrating a commitment to positively impacting our residents, clients, and communities.
Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are undergoing a transformative phase, developing a new operational framework for the DLO within our Housing Directorate.
The DLO is responsible for overseeing housing repairs and voids, along with certain planned work activities, supported by various contractors and our own skilled trade team.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at its inception and contribute to shaping the future of our Housing Operations and DLO.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Repairs and Maintenance Manager, you will ensure the delivery of a seamless, proactive, and tenant-focused repairs service. Your responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing the daily operations of the repairs and maintenance service.
- Managing an internal trade team and external repairs contractors.
- Ensuring the performance and productivity of the in-house trade team, achieving and exceeding KPIs.
- Providing specifications for complex works, coordinating activities, and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Engaging with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
- Upholding statutory and industry best practices at all times.
- Offering expert technical guidance.
- Providing support and assistance on all repairs and maintenance inquiries, often of a complex nature.
This role will also participate in a call-out rota alongside two other Senior Repairs Officers.
Candidate Profile
The successful applicant will ideally possess an RICS accredited surveying degree or a minimum HNC qualification, along with a NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent in Health and Safety.
As this role involves managing an internal Trades (DLO) team and supporting contractors, we seek candidates with substantial experience in building repairs and solutions, as well as a comprehensive understanding of current legislation related to building works, including CDM and Health and Safety regulations.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong technical knowledge of housing properties and their components.
- Experience in housing responsive repairs within a customer service environment.
- Familiarity with Building Regulations, CDM Regulations, and Landlord and Tenant law.
- Understanding of various building contracts and modern procurement methods.
- Experience in preparing and presenting data and KPI reports.
- Budgeting and financial planning experience for a large service area.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills, with supervisory experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, coupled with good IT proficiency.
A valid driving license is essential for this role.
