Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Rheumatology Consultant to join our Specialist Medicine Directorate at Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Main Responsibilities
  • Delivering Rheumatology Services: The post holder will be a member of the consultant team responsible for delivering Rheumatology services across the Trust.
  • Clinical Governance: The post holder will contribute to the overall organisation and planning of the service and will be supported by the team.
  • Service Development: The post holder will be actively encouraged to participate in service-development and clinical-governance activities.
  • Clinical Supervision: The post holder will be responsible for the clinical and educational supervision of junior trainees.
  • Administrative Support: The post holder will have secretarial support and an adequately equipped office, including IT facilities.
Requirements
  • Membership of the Royal College of Physicians: The post holder is expected to possess membership of the Royal College of Physicians or to have equivalent qualifications.
  • Specialist Registration: The post holder must be registered with the General Medical Council and licensed to practice.
  • Higher Training: The post holder must have completed higher training (CCT or within 6 months of obtaining CCT in Rheumatology at time of interview).
  • Experience of Audits: The post holder must have experience of audits.
  • Publications: The post holder must have publications in recognised Medical and Rheumatology journals.
Working Arrangements

The post will be flexibly time-tabled to meet the demands of the service and the timing of sessions may change as the service develops.

The Full-time working week will consist of 10 Programmed Activities (PA's), separated into:

  1. Direct Clinical Care
  2. Supporting Professional Activities

Weekly timetable of fixed commitments:

  • Direct Clinical Care (Outpatient clinics, admin and clinical MDT meetings): 8.5 PAs
  • Supporting Professional Activities: 1.5 PAs
