Position Overview
Boeing Defence UK is seeking a qualified individual to join the C-17 International Field Services Safety Management team. The selected candidate will collaborate with on-site Safety Officials to ensure thorough and prompt investigations of Occurrence Reports, reinforcing the C-17 Just Culture policy and aiding in the organization's risk management strategies.
Travel Requirements: Occasional travel within the UK and potential international travel may be necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate Local and Safety Investigations in response to C-17 occurrence reports, including potential joint investigations with Ministry of Defence Safety Investigators.
- Assist in C-17 related Event Review Groups.
- Monitor and track recommendations and actions arising from investigations.
- Provide insights and metrics related to Safety Investigations for relevant Safety Action Groups.
- Contribute to the enhancement of the C-17 BowTies risk management tool based on investigation findings.
- Promote and maintain a robust Positive and Just Safety Culture within the UK C-17 programme.
- Facilitate Safety communication briefings for management, leadership teams, and staff.
- Manage C-17 occurrence reports effectively.
- Assist in creating promotional materials based on investigation outcomes.
- Facilitate Hazard Working Groups to develop and refine C-17 BowTies.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives for the C-17 Safety Management System.
- Deliver Safety Management System training to all C-17 personnel on-site.
Essential Qualifications:
- Formal training in Investigation principles (e.g., MEDA, Baines Simmons, Cranfield 1-week course).
- Proven experience in leading investigations utilizing established techniques and methodologies.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to create and present concise reports to Senior Management and staff.
- Minimum HNC in Engineering or equivalent experience in aviation operations or maintenance.
- Familiarity with Just Culture principles and their application.
- Experience with civil and/or military safety reporting systems.
- Strong technical and analytical skills complemented by proficient writing abilities.
- Comprehensive understanding of Military and Civilian aviation regulations and their implementation.
- Ability to navigate relationships with UK MoD customers, suppliers, and broader Boeing stakeholders diplomatically while maintaining a strong stance.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with safety tools such as Risk Registers and BowTie, including the use of Incident XP for investigation results.
- At least 5 years of aircraft maintenance or operational experience.
- Training and experience in Occurrence Review Groups.
- Formal training and experience in Safety Management Systems.
- Experience in mentoring and coaching others.
Work Authorization: This position is for local hiring in the UK. Candidates must possess current legal authorization to work in the United Kingdom.
Security Clearance: The role requires the ability to obtain a UK security clearance, necessitating UK Citizenship.
Contingent Upon Award Program: This position is subject to program award.
