About the Role

The Befriender 'Out and About' Volunteer will play a vital role in the lives of the individuals we support at our service, by being a reliable companion to attend activities they enjoy participating in. These activities may include attending a concert, going to the cinema, going for a walk or out for coffee, visiting gardening centers, going out on shopping trips, etc.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide companionship and support to individuals with learning disabilities and autism, who may also have sight loss.
  • Attend activities with individuals, promoting social interaction and community engagement.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with individuals, their families, and other stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the development of individualized support plans, ensuring the needs and goals of individuals are met.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Age 18 or over.
  • Good sense of humor and ability to engage in conversation.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Kind, empathetic, and friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to deal with confidential information in line with data protection procedures.
  • Ability to assist with sighted guide/orientation when necessary.
