At May Business Consulting, we continue to grow and are now looking for a Payments Regulatory Policy Manager to join our team, a world-class consulting firm that offers advice on digital transformation, change management, efficiency, and control. We work on international projects with financial institutions, fintech companies, and startups.
The Payments Regulatory Policy Manager will work as a senior policy advisor on all issues relating to UK, European and international payments and associated regulatory engagement. This person will work with and support our clients to identify and manage activity on key UK and international regulatory and policy issues, coordinating the outward-facing liaison with international stakeholders (European Payments Council, European Retail Payments Board, European Banking Federation, International Banking Federation, Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructure) and feeding this back where appropriate to UK bodies, including the FCA and HM Treasury.
This role will support the UK Payments industry by developing policy which is responsive to both customer needs and regulatory concerns. The position will also provide policy and secretariat support to working groups and committees, ensuring they receive timely, high-quality inputs which inform their work and our policy positions.
This post will also contribute to the production of a range of publications, public affairs material, and online media content.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing the European Payments Working Group to build positions on key European policy developments and identify where UK industry would benefit from aligning/diverging from European payments policy.
- Jointly managing relationship with key regulators across the payments and innovation agenda, acting as a technical expert, including with HM Treasury, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and Payment Systems Regulator (PSR).
- Engage closely with and support colleagues and groups working on cross-cutting projects/workstreams on a number of issues across payments, digital, data, economic crime and the ongoing review of the Payments Services Regulations.
- Provide clients with relevant market and regulatory insights to inform their own business planning.
- Knowledge of the UK and European public policy challenges faced by clients in running their businesses, including the needs of clients' customers and clients.
- Understanding of the wider payments landscape, including card and interbank payments, and where the key policy issues intersect internationally.
Requirements:
- Public policy affairs experience at the UK and/or EU level with government, parliamentarians and regulators (either within those circles or with a firm or consultancy) is highly desirable for this role.
- Ability to track, horizon scan and summarise emerging regulatory and policy developments.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to distill complex issues into compelling policy advocacy positions, together with the ability to effectively manage diverse stakeholder relationships.
Salary depending on experience. Permanent contract with the client. London (HYBRID)
