Position Overview
Research England is a vital entity within UK Research and Innovation, playing a crucial role in the research funding landscape. This organization is responsible for overseeing the England-specific functions of UKRI concerning university research and knowledge exchange (KE).
As the Director of Knowledge Exchange, you will be tasked with providing strategic direction for the formulation and execution of policies related to knowledge exchange within Research England and UKRI, along with overseeing related elements of the research and innovation ecosystem facilitated through higher education institutions in England.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in the senior leadership, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and management of Research England, contributing to the development and implementation of the Strategic Delivery Plans, particularly focusing on Place and commercialization.
- Serve as a leading authority on knowledge exchange and commercialization within the university sector, providing intellectual leadership that informs national policy in both UK and international contexts.
- Offer strategic oversight for the Council’s knowledge exchange initiatives and teams, ensuring all technical and operational matters are effectively managed.
- Design and manage Research England’s data and evidence initiatives for knowledge exchange, collaborating with key partners and stakeholders.
Candidate Profile
- Proven extensive experience in research related to knowledge exchange and commercialization, or in science policy roles.
- Comprehensive understanding of the knowledge exchange and commercialization landscape, with demonstrated experience in national and university-level policy and practice, particularly regarding the role of universities in the economy and society.
- Experience in managing and delivering complex programs at a systemic level while effectively navigating change and aligning the efforts of multiple teams towards long-term strategic goals.
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective governance in a public or third sector organization, including experience in the strategic delivery of funding and programs within universities and the research sector, alongside familiarity with complex numerical and statistical funding methodologies.
