Role Overview
As a Senior Thermal Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the engineering of our next-generation hydrogen-electric engines. Collaborating with our Hydrogen, Propulsion, and Integration teams, you will tackle complex technical challenges to decarbonize aviation through advancements in electric propulsion, hydrogen storage, fuel cell technology, power distribution, and thermal management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop thermal management systems and components for fuel cell electric powertrains.
  • Generate innovative thermal concepts and oversee prototype design and development.
  • Conduct detailed design, analysis, testing, and verification in compliance with aerospace regulations.
  • Define thermal system requirements and specifications, collaborating with Systems Engineering teams to deliver optimized solutions.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of thermal solutions.
  • Create CAD geometries for thermal system components and prepare manufacturing drawings.
  • Participate in internal and external design and project reviews, presenting findings as necessary.
  • Perform numerical simulations and optimizations using various tools, including hand calculations, 1D thermofluid modeling, and CFD analysis.
  • Enhance internal analysis and data processing tools based on first principles.
  • Plan and execute ground test campaigns to characterize equipment and validate system-level requirements.
  • Provide expertise in the integration of thermal system components.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and issue resolution as needed.
  • Support project timing and cost management for design responsibilities.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with significant technical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in implementing innovative design solutions for thermal systems.
  • Familiarity with components such as heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and sensors.
  • Experience in testing and validation in both physical and virtual environments.
  • Proficient in hand calculations and programming in Matlab and/or Python.
  • Experience with 1D thermo-fluid analysis tools (e.g., Matlab Simscape).
  • Knowledge of commercial CFD software (e.g., Ansys Fluent, Siemens Star CCM+).
  • Skilled in CAD and PLM tools (e.g., Siemens NX), including engineering drawings and P&IDs.
  • Understanding of materials, finishes, and processes, including additive manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of phase change and thermodynamics across various temperature ranges.
  • Familiarity with H2 fuel cell and electric powertrain cooling systems is advantageous.
  • Experience with high voltage enclosures and power electronics thermal management is a plus.
  • Ability to quickly assimilate technical information and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proficiency in spoken and written English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a diverse team.
