About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join our team at an alternative provision school. In this role, you will support students on a one-to-one basis within the classroom environment, helping them to engage with their learning and manage their behavior.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one support to students within the classroom, assisting with academic tasks and emotional regulation.
  • Help implement personalized learning plans and behavior management strategies.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage their engagement and participation.
  • Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behavior and promote a positive classroom atmosphere.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers and other staff members.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and external agencies to support students' holistic development.
  • Assist with classroom activities and administrative tasks as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and effectiveness.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting, particularly those with additional needs, is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
  • Patience, resilience, and a calm approach to handling challenging situations.
  • A commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or child development are advantageous but not essential.
About the Ideal Candidate

The ideal teaching assistant would be somebody who has a lot of resilience, can support children on a 1-1 basis, and create an environment where students feel safe, comfortable, and confident to reach their full potential.
