Position Overview:

Oversee the daily functions of the laundry department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. The Laundry Operations Head plays a crucial role in the management of the facility. This position requires a certain level of technical expertise, the ability to evaluate methods and procedures, knowledge of machinery and supplies, sound judgment in corrective actions, and the skill to identify essential components of comprehensive departmental programs.
  2. Accountable to the Executive Housekeeper for the efficient daily operation of the laundry facility.
  3. Must demonstrate the ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions and effectively address issues related to guest needs.
  4. Responsible for washing, ironing, dry cleaning, and proper storage of all laundry items.
  5. Ensures all equipment is in optimal working condition and collaborates with the Executive Housekeeper for timely repairs.
  6. Coordinates with various departments to guarantee proper sorting of linens prior to laundry processing, ensuring items are free of debris and sorted by color.
  7. Reviews finished products at the end of each cycle to confirm quality standards are met and implements quality control measures at each stage.
  8. Conducts daily inspections of dryers to ensure they are lint-free and operating within the appropriate temperature range.
  9. Oversees daily checks to confirm all equipment is functioning at peak performance and that water temperatures are maximized.
  10. Submits daily inspection reports to the Executive Housekeeper and First Engineer.
  11. Coordinates the cleaning of non-logo uniforms between the linen keeper and crew members, ensuring no charges apply if verified as legitimate uniform items.
  12. Directs all laundry-related problem resolutions to the Executive Housekeeper.
  13. Supervises sorting and washing processes.
  14. Ensures timely distribution of laundered items across various areas, including guest staterooms, crew cabins, dining areas, spa, pool, and other divisions.
  15. Collaborates with the Cruise Division to align washing schedules for costumes and other items required for performances.
  16. Manages the setting of washing formulas and cycles based on linen types and soil levels, partnering with Ecolab representatives for regular machine calibration and service.
  17. Ensures all staff maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of work areas and equipment.
  18. Coordinates maintenance and repairs of machinery, promptly notifying the Executive Housekeeper of any issues or concerns.
  19. Completes requisitions for chemical supplies and adheres to the financial budget, consulting the Assistant Executive Housekeeper for any additional non-chemical supplies needed.
  20. Works with the Senior Deck Supervisor to ensure timely return of Top Suite items to guests, maintaining high quality.
  21. Conducts quality control checks on Top Suite linens, towels, and robes, collaborating with the Linen Keeper and Senior Deck Supervisor to ensure the best quality items are available.
  22. Regularly reviews sales and revenue generated from laundry services with the Executive Housekeeper, seeking opportunities to meet or exceed targets.
  23. Continuously assesses the financial budget with the Executive Housekeeper to ensure operations remain on track to meet monthly and yearly goals.
  24. Takes full ownership of guest concerns in line with onboard problem resolution guidelines to maximize guest satisfaction.
  25. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
  26. Understands and applies environmental policies and procedures related to waste collection, sorting, disposal, and the use of cleaning chemicals.
  27. Follows all SQM policies.
  28. All shipboard employees must be physically capable of participating in emergency life-saving procedures and drills, requiring full range of motion and sensory abilities to receive and communicate instructions during emergencies.

Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications, language, and physical requirements necessary for the role.

Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. A minimum of three years of relevant experience and/or training in the laundry sector, or a combination of education and experience.

Language Proficiency: Ability to read and interpret documents in English, including safety regulations, operational instructions, and procedural manuals.

Physical Demands: The physical requirements outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. While performing job duties, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate objects, reach with arms, communicate verbally, and utilize sensory abilities. In emergencies, the employee may need to sit, stoop, kneel, or crawl.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
