Job Overview

Currie & Brown is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Estimator to join our Infrastructure team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for producing accurate cost estimates, validating suppliers' and contractors' cost estimates, and providing efficient tools and processes to enable timely and consistent production of estimates.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cost Estimation: Produce accurate cost estimates reflecting the project scope and timescales, to a consistent format and quality.
  • Supplier Validation: Accurately validate suppliers' and contractors' cost estimates.
  • Process Improvement: Provide efficient tools and processes that enable timely and consistent production of estimates to a common standard.
  • Estimate Reporting: Produce estimate reports.
  • Cost Planning: Prepare cost estimates during the execution phase to validate contractors' cost forecasts and contract changes.
  • Specialist Services: Provide specialist cost planning and estimating services in accordance with our rail clients' governance and assurance procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: BSc in quantity surveying or equivalent.
  • Professional Membership: Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or equivalent.
  • Technical Experience: Technical delivery experience in the provision of estimating and/or QS services.
  • Industry Experience: Extensive rail, highways or utilities sector experience.
  • Pre-Contract Experience: Pre-contract experience.
  • Project Management: Understanding of project management, planning, risk and investment processes.
  • Cost Planning Techniques: Working knowledge of cost planning techniques for the financial control of projects during design development stages.
  • Unit Cost Modelling: Proficient in the use of unit cost modelling tools.
  • Communication Skills: Good technical writing, client-facing and communication skills.
  • Personal Qualities: Well-organised, diligent, proactive, assertive, well-disciplined and commercially astute.
