Position Summary: Rent Officer
At the VOA, we offer a diverse range of property-related services to the public, and this position is an excellent opportunity to embark on a rewarding career in delivering these services.
In this role, the selected candidate will represent the VOA through regular engagements with letting agents and landlords to gather rental data. Rent Officers primarily focus on three key areas: the registration of Fair Rent, conducting rental valuations for Housing Benefit, and researching a representative sample of residential letting information.
The successful applicant will collaborate with a Hub Manager and work alongside colleagues both locally and nationally. This position offers the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities across a broad geographical area. After completing training, you will enjoy the autonomy to manage your own schedule and workload, promoting a healthy work-life balance.
The Rent Officer position presents an opportunity to deepen your understanding of property and valuation. You will enhance your interpersonal skills and build strong relationships with external partners, contributing positively to our public reputation.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Conduct regular visits to letting agents and landlords to collect rental information, effectively communicating the benefits of providing this data to ensure successful engagements.
- Organize collection activities and prepare reports utilizing market insights gathered from various data sources.
- Apply relevant Data Protection guidelines in daily data processing and address any concerns from agents or landlords regarding data protection legislation.
- Assist in producing Local Housing Allowance rates by applying knowledge of guidelines, policies, precedents, and laws to ensure a representative view of the rental market, adhering to established protocols.
- Engage in communication activities via telephone, email, and written correspondence, including contacting landlords for data collection and addressing inquiries related to housing benefits, fair rent, and LHA.
- Perform monthly quality assurance processes for Office of National Statistics (ONS) outputs to identify errors and exceptions within designated timeframes.
- Input rental data using VOA Rent Officer applications.
- Determine valuations for Housing Benefit in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Register Fair Rents under The Rent Act 1977.
- Inspect properties for Housing Benefit or Fair Rent Act determinations.
- Note that for positions outside London, Rent Officers may need to cover extensive geographical areas.

Essential Qualifications
- A genuine interest in property and valuation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

- Customer-focused with robust customer service skills.
- Ability to adhere to established guidelines and policies.
- A valid UK driving license.
- Willingness to travel regularly, potentially covering large geographical areas.

- Experience in the property sector.
Licenses
A full UK driving license is essential for this role. However, if you are considered disabled under the Equality Act 2010 and do not hold a full driving license, we will consider your application.
