Senior Clinical Scientist in Biochemical Analysis

Position Overview
We are pleased to announce an opportunity for a Senior Clinical Scientist specializing in Biochemical Analysis. We invite applications from qualified individuals with substantial experience in a dynamic Biochemical Analysis Department.
The ideal candidate will be a registered Clinical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and must have successfully completed the Part 1 FRCPath examination. Candidates who have completed Part 1 FRCPath and are actively pursuing Part 2 FRCPath are encouraged to apply, as this position offers comprehensive support for Part 2 preparation.
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will lead the Proteins section within the laboratory and play a pivotal role in the department's Quality Management System. Responsibilities include:
- Method and protocol development.
- Clinical liaison duties, including serving as the 'duty' biochemist.
- Collaboration with IT teams as a data analyst.
- Contributing to the education and training of both trainee clinical scientists and biomedical scientists.
The appointee will assist the Head of Department and collaborate with the Consultant team to deliver a comprehensive, cost-effective, and high-quality Biochemical Analysis service compliant with ISO15189:2012 standards. The department is actively transitioning to ISO15189:2022 standards, and the appointee will represent the department in relevant meetings and contribute to service enhancement initiatives.

Job Requirements
Our laboratory operates a 24/7 acute analytical service, with a non-urgent service available during weekdays. The successful candidate will be required to work across multiple sites and participate in the on-call roster for clinical advice after appropriate training.
The laboratory utilizes advanced automation technologies, including Roche Cobas for chemistry, Siemens Atellica for immunochemistry, and Sebia for protein electrophoresis.
We are committed to the ongoing professional development of our staff and are establishing a shared pathology network with local Integrated Care System partners.
The role necessitates close collaboration with Consultants, Team Leaders, Quality Leads, and operational managers within the Blood Sciences team.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- First Degree or equivalent knowledge and expertise.
- Master's Degree or equivalent expertise in Clinical Biochemistry.
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) as required for Medical Consultant roles.
- Demonstrated Continuing Professional Development.
- HCPC registration as a clinical scientist.
Desirable:
- PhD in a relevant field.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential:
- In-depth knowledge of human biochemistry, metabolic processes, and pharmacology.
- Sound understanding of various Pathology disciplines.
- Extensive knowledge of analytical methods and quality assurance practices.
- Able to conduct risk assessments in laboratory settings.
- Familiarity with COSHH regulations.
- Ability to perform clinical risk assessments and address service-related issues.
- Knowledge of national professional guidelines and resource management.
Desirable:
- Expertise in specialized areas such as protein electrophoresis and endocrinology.
Experience
Essential:
- A minimum of five years as a Registered Clinical Scientist, with two years at an advanced practitioner level.
Desirable:
- Recognition as a national or international expert in the field.
- Demonstrated achievements in research and development.
