About the Role
We are seeking a driven and passionate Area Sales Manager - Merchants - South to join our UK team, working flexibly within the southern region.
This position entails managing and expanding a profitable CRH business within builder merchant clients in a designated southern area of the UK. You will also cultivate relationships with house builders and end users as necessary, enhancing CRH's brand visibility among them.
Main Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Oversee the trading relationship between CRH and a select group of merchant and house builder clients in the southern UK.
- Identify priority branches and propose/implement strategies to enhance CRH's business, including collaboration with external commercial teams to support projects, training branch staff, and managing product presentation in branches.
- Ensure a robust connection between the merchant's sales personnel and the CRH masonry project team to support targeted project initiatives.
- Provide insights on competitor activities through regular reporting.
- Assist in the introduction of new products within the merchant channel.
- Develop and track a set of commercial KPIs for selected merchant accounts.
- Manage customer complaints effectively, ensuring successful resolutions.
- Maximize product order back-selling from end users to merchants.
- Identify underperforming clients and formulate action plans for growth improvement.
- Participate in exhibitions and conferences as required by business needs.
Experience & Qualifications
To excel in this role, you will need:
- Strong interpersonal skills, including effective oral, telephone, and written communication, active listening, and personal empathy.
- Analytical abilities to identify opportunities.
- Capability to establish personal credibility with clients.
- A calm and mature approach to problem-solving.
- A solid understanding of CRH's operations with builders merchants, the construction process, pricing strategies, and the transactional journey from inquiry to payment (training will be provided).
- Familiarity with UK builders merchants (previous sales experience is essential; field sales experience is desirable but not mandatory as training will be provided).
- A valid driver's license and the ability to travel 20-30k miles annually.
