About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Paediatric Community Team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in empowering children and young people to fulfill their potential in daily occupations such as self-care, school, and leisure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assessment and intervention in the areas of self-care, school, and play/leisure, taking a client-centred approach and advocating on behalf of the child and/or their carers where appropriate.
  • Assess the impact of the environment (physical, social, sensory, and cultural) on a child/young person's occupational performance and make recommendations for the provision of specialist equipment.
  • Set collaborative SMART goals with children, families, and relevant professionals, using evidence of current best practice to plan, facilitate, and evaluate appropriate interventions.
  • Teach therapeutic techniques to parents, carers, and education staff to enable them to carry out an OT programme for a child or group of children.
  • Evaluate progress using appropriate outcome measures and modify strategies where appropriate.
  • Work confidently and effectively within the multi-disciplinary team, leading in the creation and delivery of service workshops to both families and professionals.
  • Analyse and reflect on the current service provision and lead on service development, actively participating and contributing to the service's CPD programme.
  • Provide formal supervision and leadership within the team.

Person Specification
  • Essential:
    • GCSEs (including A-C grade in English & Maths, or equivalent)
    • 3 passes at A level (or equivalent)
    • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent overseas qualification
    • Registration with HCPC
  • Desirable:
    • Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists
    • Postgraduate paediatric training
