We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our team at a new 5-19 special needs provision in Harrow. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in shaping the school's vision and supporting the growth of our teaching assistant team.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will support the class teacher and SENCO with all aspects of the day-to-day running of the class, including teaching whole classes, groups, and individual lessons. You will also take the lead in the absence of a class teacher, assessing, recording, and reporting on pupil development, progress, and attainment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the class teacher and SENCO with lesson planning, delivery, and assessment
  • Teach whole classes, groups, and individual lessons in consultation with the class teacher
  • Take the lead in the absence of a class teacher, assessing, recording, and reporting on pupil development, progress, and attainment
  • Establish a warm, caring, and supportive relationship with pupils to promote their emotional and educational well-being
  • Promote and encourage independence and personal development in pupils
  • Maintain high expectations of behaviour at all times
Requirements:
  • Higher level teaching assistant diploma or equivalent level 4 qualification desirable but not required
  • GCSE Pass above C (or 4 in the new GCSE system) in English and Maths
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of pupils with SEN or SEMH/ASD
  • Understanding of safeguarding principles and child protection procedures
  • Experience of managing a range of approaches to behaviour, including manager behaviours that challenge
