Job Title: Control Systems and Applications Engineer

Job Summary:
Join GE Aviation's dynamic team as a Control Systems and Applications Engineer and contribute to the development of innovative control and protection systems for HVDC schemes. As a key member of our team, you will work on system requirements, design, and performance verification of control and protection functions, collaborating with a highly motivated and dynamic team of engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support the business' tendering, operations, contractual, and after-sales needs regarding HVDC system modeling in PSCAD.
  2. Develop and validate AC network models in various simulation tools, including PSCAD.
  3. Conduct dynamic performance and protection coordination studies using offline and online simulation tools.
  4. Convert PSS/E AC networks to PSCAD models and MATLAB Simulink algorithms to PSCAD models.
  5. Perform engineering design reviews, identifying potential project risks and technical weaknesses, and proposing safe, reliable, and compliant solutions.
  6. Understand key milestones in a project plan, their financial impact, and ensure technical risks are understood and mitigated in accordance with the plan.
  7. Propose improvements to existing algorithms/strategies for power fault recovery or instability issues during DPS studies.
  8. Develop new strategies for control, protection, and sequencing (start-up/shut-down sequence) to meet customer technical specifications if required.
  9. Support continual improvement, raising the effectiveness and efficiency of the team through the introduction of tools, methods, and process improvements, and coordinating with Continuous Improvement leaders.
Requirements:
  1. Engineering degree or equivalent, including power systems and power electronics subjects, or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in HVDC business.
  2. Sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage technical risks.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements.
  5. Familiarity with functional characteristics of power systems and interactions between AC and HVDC systems.
  6. Knowledge of HVDC control, protection, and sequencing strategy.
  7. Familiarity with PSCAD simulation tools.
  8. Able to work to deadlines while maintaining the safety, quality, and engineering integrity of the solution.
  9. Must be flexible with working hours and willing to travel to support projects globally.
Desired Characteristics:
  1. Ability to define requirements and ensure they adhere to best practice.
  2. Experience working in the HVDC industry.
  3. Familiarity with power system study tools such as Power Factory, PSS/E, ETAP, EMTDC RV, etc.
  4. Experienced in leading technical discussions with customers and developing client relationships.
