About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Actuarial Director to join our team at Markel Corporation. As an Actuarial Director, you will play a key role in driving forward our Actuarial Pricing team, working on project work around case pricing, tool development, and M&A activities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Oversee the analysis of the profitability of product lines and individual accounts, design pricing tools for both actuarial and underwriter use, validate rating structures, and provide insight to support the profitability and growth of various books of business.
  2. Assist in assessing underwriting plans and their impact on forward-looking profitability assessments.
  3. Help draft Solvency II Opinions and liaise with the capital modeling team to ensure parameterization is appropriate and business-focused.
  4. Utilize available statistical data to establish reliable and accurate estimates of the risk, using the most appropriate actuarial techniques.
  5. Build staff capable of effectively carrying out assignments and specific goals and recommend effective personal actions when needed.
  6. Evaluate procedures and practices and implement changes to improve workflow.
  7. Communicate actuarial results with actuaries and non-actuaries in a clear and concise manner.
  8. Document processes, assumptions, and methodologies, and results of actuarial analysis.
Requirements
  1. Substantial experience of technical pricing, including case pricing large accounts and rating model development.
  2. Experience of portfolio management monitoring and development of associated metrics.
  3. Experience in the actuarial elements of business planning and parameterization of underwriting risk, including interacting with other departments, including Finance, Underwriting, Capital, etc.
  4. Ability to manage and engage senior stakeholders and create effective relationships with stakeholders.
  5. Aware of the latest market practice and developments in the field of pricing and portfolio management.
