Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Nuclear Medicine Imaging Specialist to become a vital member of our diverse team at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Our facility is equipped with advanced technology, including a SPECT-CT system and a DXA bone densitometry system, enabling us to conduct a variety of diagnostic examinations such as Lung Ventilation & Perfusion Imaging, Lacrimal Drainage, and Bile Salt Absorption studies.

The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, executing a broad spectrum of clinical Nuclear Medicine and imaging procedures while ensuring exceptional patient care.

This role involves rotation through various modalities as required by service demands.

The Trust operates a shift system and provides services seven days a week. Flexibility in work patterns is essential.

Key Responsibilities

- Conduct a comprehensive range of Nuclear Medicine and imaging procedures across diverse clinical scenarios and pathologies, adhering to established standards.

- Ensure all examinations comply with the IR(ME)R 2017 Regulations, fulfilling the operator's responsibilities.

- Strive to minimize radiation exposure to the lowest levels practicable.

- Accurately prepare and calibrate radiopharmaceuticals.

- Perform intravenous cannulation and administer radiopharmaceuticals with precision and aseptic technique to prevent complications.

- Administer radioactive tracers via oral and topical routes.

- Safely manage radioactive contamination in patients or the environment.

- Uphold the responsibility to minimize radiation doses to patients, caregivers, and staff.

- Conduct regular quality assurance checks on equipment, documenting findings and identifying trends for necessary improvements.

- Participate in staff meetings and departmental initiatives, including Health & Safety, audits, and clinical governance.

- Monitor adherence to radiation protection protocols and report any issues to the Radiation Protection Supervisor.

- Commit to ongoing professional development and skill enhancement.

- Attend all mandatory training sessions as required by the Trust.

  • BSc Radiography (Hons) or Diploma of College of Radiographers (or equivalent) / Nuclear Medicine Qualification.
  • HCPC / RCT/ UK Professional Registration.

Desirable

  • Experience in Nuclear Medicine / DEXA.

  • Demonstrated clinical experience post-qualification.
  • Experience rotating between specialized areas.
