Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and open-minded Senior or Principal Ecologist to join our established team at our Leeds office. This role presents an exciting opportunity to cultivate new client relationships, manage a diverse portfolio of projects, and enhance the technical expertise of our team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and conduct ecological field surveys, along with the analysis and interpretation of survey findings.
- Prepare preliminary ecological assessments, survey reports, license applications, and Ecological Impact Assessments.
- Develop and implement mitigation strategies and habitat management plans.
- Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams and clients.
- Mentor junior staff members to foster their professional growth.
- Oversee project management tasks, including resource allocation, subcontractor management, risk assessment, quality assurance, and client feedback.
- Explore and develop emerging workstreams such as Biodiversity Net Gain.
- Assist in the preparation of fee proposals and contribute to the expansion of new business areas.
Candidate Profile
- A degree or equivalent qualification in ecology or a related field.
- Possession or progression towards protected species survey licenses, along with experience in protected species mitigation licensing.
- Membership as an Associate or Full member of CIEEM or a relevant professional institute.
- Comprehensive understanding of habitat surveys and a broad knowledge of protected species assessments.
- Proficient in writing Ecological Impact Assessment reports and familiar with CIEEM methodologies.
- Competent in GIS applications, with a solid understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain assessments and metric calculators.
- Experience in managing ecology projects to successful completion.
- A proven ability to mentor and manage junior team members.
- Self-motivated with strong communication skills, capable of working collaboratively within a team.
- Exceptional report writing capabilities.
Flexibility in travel and working hours is essential, particularly during survey periods, and candidates should be prepared for occasional overnight stays as project demands dictate. A full driving license and access to a vehicle are required due to the nature of the role.
