Job Title: Food Production Shift Manager

GBR Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Food Production Shift Manager to join a leading chilled food manufacturing business. As a key member of the production team, you will be responsible for managing a team of 6 directs and c indirect Food Production Operatives.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food production management, with experience at Shift Manager or FLM level. You will be passionate about getting the best performance out of your production teams, using positive and tried methods.

The business has strong working practices and processes in place, so the focus of this leadership role is on the well-being, personal development, and performance of the employees. You will be able to implement, drive, and promote a happy and buoyant working culture, with everyone being a team player.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of the production team, ensuring full compliance to the daily and weekly production plans, delivering a quality food product range OTIF, meeting customer deadlines to a costed standard.
  • Deliver world-class manufacturing standards, through self-development and team development, plus involvement.
  • Ensure staffing numbers are set at an optimum level to achieve output levels to the standards required by the customers.
  • Maintain excellent GMP/HACCP standards at all times, delivering quality standards required (customers and external audits, i.e. BRC).
  • Ensure the smooth running of the core business by liaising with department leaders to co-ordinate stock, production, picking, and dispatch.
  • Manage, control, and achieve set KPIs (i.e. Plan attainment, Cost of Quality, Labour Cost, Training, Skills Gap, Recruitment/Retention, Downtime, and Waste).
  • Take the lead on all things food safety.
  • Proactive and reactive day-to-day problem-solving, to ensure daily production plan is met.
  • Strong focus on SIC/bottleneck management and team management to ensure throughputs are successfully maintained at the target levels.
  • Proactively suggest process improvements/CI, that can improve throughputs and efficiency (LEAN).
  • Be a real people motivator, manager, trainer, and truly develop the production team workers and maximise their potential (future Managers).
  • Be a highly positive contributor in all production meetings.
  • Carry out RTWs, investigations, and disciplinaries when needed.
  • Cross-train staff to be able to multi-task and carry out varying duties.
  • Support NPD during the development of new products and NPI.

Requirements:

  • Food Production/Processing experience at Shift Manager, FLM, Area Manager, Section Manager, Production Manager, or Factory Manager level.
  • Chilled Food sector experience.
  • Passionate mentor, coach, and motivator of others.
  • Strong in GMP, BRC Audits, Retailer Codes, H&S, HACCP, SIC, CI, LEAN, Zero Waste, and Quality.
  • Able to lead teams of 5+ (directs) and c Operatives (indirects).
  • Happy to commit to a fixed Sunday to Thursday working pattern (some earlier finishes on the Sunday).
