Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Legal Counsel to join our team at the Financial Reporting Council. As a key member of our Legal Services team, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality legal advice to our internal clients and supporting the delivery of our strategic and policy objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and Oversee a Sub-Team: You will be responsible for managing and overseeing a sub-team of approximately 6-7 personnel, mostly lawyers, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely, and business-focused legal advice.
  • Deliver Strategic and Policy Objectives: As an effective member of the Legal Services team, you will support the delivery of our strategic and policy objectives, identifying, escalating, and mitigating legal risk issues.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to identify and implement ways to best deliver our strategic and policy objectives.
  • Manage Stakeholder Relationships: You will effectively manage internal and external stakeholder relationships, advising senior internal clients, including committees and boards.
  • Reporting and Communication: You will report to the Director of Legal Services and communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders in a clear, concise, and comprehensible manner.
Requirements
  • Significant Post-Qualification Experience: You will have significant and relevant post-qualification experience as a solicitor or barrister qualified to practice in England & Wales.
  • Team Management Experience: You will have significant experience of managing a legal team and ensuring its delivery of high-quality legal advice.
  • Public Law Experience: You will have demonstrable experience in public law.
  • Regulatory Experience: You will have demonstrable experience in regulatory, enforcement, and/or information/privacy.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work well with others at all levels, within and across teams.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Practice Area Experience: You will have demonstrable experience in any one or more of the following practice areas: competition law, litigation, and/or corporate and commercial law.
  • Project Management Experience: You will have experience of working on projects and legislative change programmes.
  • In-House Legal Experience: You will have experience of advising as part of an in-house legal team.
  • External Counsel Management: You will have demonstrable experience of instructing and managing external counsel.
