Finance Controller

Athwal Resourcing Ltd is exclusively searching for a newly established Finance Controller to join a remarkable, fast-evolving manufacturing and construction organization.
Given the organization's growth trajectory, we are looking for a high-caliber Finance Controller to become part of the management team, collaborating closely with the Commercial Director and Board.
Your role will encompass overseeing the comprehensive accounting functions for the UK operations, ensuring that management accounting, financial reporting, and robust financial controls are effectively implemented across the group.
Additionally, you will be tasked with maintaining and enhancing the financial health of all UK subsidiaries and future acquisitions. Your contributions will be vital in aligning financial performance with strategic objectives while identifying opportunities and risks.
As the Finance Controller, you will play a crucial role in the senior leadership team, addressing critical issues and managing relationships with external stakeholders.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Financial Control & Management Reporting: You will be fully accountable for finance control and business reporting, ensuring timely production of monthly management accounts and board reports reflecting the financial performance of the UK businesses, along with consolidated financial accounts for the UK group.
- Day-to-Day Financial Oversight: You will oversee the accuracy of all ledgers (sales, purchase, and nominal), payroll, and human resources administration. You will also manage credit control policies, including credit insurance, and supervise monthly payrolls for all group companies, group pension schemes, and employee benefits.
- Business Partnership: Collaborate with operational managers on commercial and financial matters, attending meetings to establish finance control and drive operational excellence in management reporting development and KPI report dashboards to meet strategic targets.
- Financial Planning: Work closely with the Director to assist in shaping the company's financial strategy and delivering the financial aspects of the strategic plan. Lead the annual budgeting process and forecasting, proposing action plans to achieve yearly financial objectives.
- Liaison with External Authorities: Manage and coordinate all year-end processes, serving as the primary contact for external auditors, tax authorities, and banking relationships, ensuring timely submission of VAT returns and CIS returns.
- Team Management: Lead a small team of finance and support staff, overseeing recruitment, performance, and development, while ensuring personal development plans and training needs are addressed.
- Strategic Initiatives: Collaborate with the Director on strategic and commercial initiatives, ensuring effective financial control across the organization.
Qualifications:
- Graduate-level education with an accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA).
- Experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or Management Accountant role, preferably in a multi-site group environment.
- A background in the manufacturing or contracting sector, ideally with project accounting experience.
- Demonstrable hands-on experience in growing businesses, both organically and through acquisitions.
- Advanced computer skills, particularly in MS Office, with proficiency in Excel (Vlookups, Pivot tables).
- Strong management skills in leading a small finance team.
- Flexible, self-motivated, and capable of working autonomously while being part of a wider team.
- Effective communication skills for managing internal and external stakeholders and addressing business risks.
