The Deputy Medical Director (Workforce & Professional Standards) is a key leadership role responsible for supporting the Medical Director in providing clear direction and leadership to Medical and Dental colleagues in respect of their clinical and professional behavior.

This role will have delegated authority from the Medical Director and will be the named Responsible Officer for the organisation, responsible for GMC revalidation, Consultant Appraisal, and 360 feedback.

As a Responsible Officer, this individual will play a crucial role in improving the quality and safety of patient care through their statutory duties, which include evaluating fitness to practice and monitoring conduct and performance.

Main Responsibilities
  1. To provide professional, inclusive, and compassionate leadership for medical and dental staff across the Trust through effective role modeling and professional development activities.
  2. To act as the mandatory training champion for medical and dental staff and support and input into leadership development programmes and succession planning.
  3. Work with Human Resources to harmonise medical workforce guidelines and practice across all three acute providers.
  4. Help to improve the training and development of medical leaders and managers.
  5. To actively promote diversity, including race and gender diversity, in the delivery of the Trust's medical and dental services, and the recruitment, management and development of medical and dental staff.
  6. To foster effective relationships with the University Medical and Dental Schools to provide a supportive and effective teaching environment.
  7. To contribute to developing effective working relationships with education providers and other professional bodies to ensure that there is appropriate correlation between service and training needs.
  8. To represent the organisation at regional and national levels on professional medical, dental and corporate issues, developing partnerships, sharing best practice and integrating this knowledge within the Trust.
