Position Overview
We are pleased to present an opportunity for a Lead Cardiac Care Nurse to become a vital part of our specialized Cardiac Care Unit.
This position entails assisting the Unit Manager and guiding junior nursing staff in the effective leadership and administration of the unit. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with various departments to enhance the quality of cardiac services.
Our Cardiac Care Unit is equipped with 18 beds and an additional side room, all fitted with cardiac monitoring capabilities. We receive patients directly from emergency services and operate a 24-hour Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PPCI) service.
We cater to a diverse range of cardiology patients who may require temporary pacing, intra-aortic balloon pump support, non-invasive ventilation, and management of patients with arterial lines.
We value professional development and take pride in offering numerous in-house training sessions, including workshops on ECG interpretation and scenario-based training. Our dedicated practice educator is focused on meeting the developmental needs of the unit, alongside the senior nursing team, which includes the Unit Manager and Band 7 nurses. There are also opportunities to pursue various courses within the organization and in collaboration with academic institutions. The Lead Cardiac Care Nurse will have the chance to enroll in the Band 6 Development Program, which provides essential competencies to support their growth in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate clinical proficiency in all essential cardiac care skills.
- Oversee daily operations of the ward, ensuring effective patient flow and prioritizing patient safety.
- Provide support and guidance to both junior and senior nursing staff.
- Manage incident reporting and conduct reviews.
- Ensure that Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are consistently met.
- Facilitate the professional development of nursing staff at all levels.
- Assist the Unit Manager with budget management.
- Take responsibility for mentoring a designated group and conducting performance appraisals.
