Job Summary:

Solos Consultants Ltd is seeking a highly experienced and skilled professional to lead our Education Capital Strategy and Building Surveying team. As the Head of Education Capital Strategy and Building Surveying, you will be responsible for delivering the property service and asset management function for our Families, Children & Learning Directorate, ensuring that the Education Estate is fit for purpose and capital resources are maximised within the limits of affordability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement effective property strategies to meet the statutory duty to secure sufficient school places for the number of pupils in the city.
  • Manage and maintain the Education Estate, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including procurement, tendering, and contracting.
  • Lead the delivery of major construction development projects related to Education and other building functions, as well as capital maintenance projects.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including partners, clients, and the public, to achieve service improvement and change management goals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with contractors, managing site presence and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Provide high-quality reports and documentation for decision-making purposes, adhering to central government requirements.

Requirements:

  • Professional qualification in a relevant discipline, such as Architecture, Engineering, Surveying, or other building/construction discipline.
  • Significant experience in delivering major construction development projects, capital maintenance projects, and service improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships and challenge constructively in a political environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide innovative solutions in complex contexts.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
