Job Title: Head of Financial Services

About the Role

The Head of Financial Services is a strategic role within the council, responsible for all aspects of local government finance applicable to a district council. This includes strategic engagement with council members, officers, and partners who work with the council. The successful candidate will lead a team that supports all aspects of finance, from strategic finance to budget setting and monitoring, treasury management, and transactional finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of finance professionals to deliver strategic finance, budget setting, and monitoring, treasury management, and transactional finance.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support the council's objectives.
  • Provide financial advice to council members and officers.
  • Manage the council's financial risks and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure effective financial planning and management.

Requirements

  • Qualified accountant with local government experience.
  • Strong leadership background with experience in managing teams through change and delivering results.
  • Resilient and able to make tough decisions with integrity.
  • Skilled in providing clear, strategic financial advice.
  • Ability to strike the right balance between strategic and operational leadership.
