We are seeking a dedicated Mechanical Engineer to join our team at HMP Bedford, a Category B, Male prison. Our team is committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment, and we are looking for someone who shares our passion for making a positive difference.

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced and passionate colleagues who are dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for all. You will be responsible for maintaining and repairing commercial and industrial heating and water systems, as well as ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements.

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with any combination of:

  • Two years' experience working in a role as a plumber or equivalent
  • Familiarity with and ability to work to Water Supply Regulation and Control of Legionella L8 requirements
  • Experience working on commercial or industrial heating and water systems
  • Good working knowledge of relevant health and safety requirements
  • Plumber qualified to C&G 6035 (Plumbing), C&G 6189 (Plumbing and heating) and NVQ level 3 in Plumbing or equivalent
  • Good Health & Safety knowledge
  • Excellent organisational, time management and people skills
