About the Role

The Greater London Authority (GLA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Data Scientist to join our Evidence & Insight team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in a dynamic team dedicated to leveraging data science to drive actionable insights and support the GLA in achieving its statutory aims.

As the Lead Data Scientist, you will be responsible for developing and executing sophisticated analytical projects, providing strategic leadership in formulating the GLA's Data Science strategy. You will also mentor a team of Data Scientists and ensure data science is a key aspect within GLA decision-making processes.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and develop the data science team within the GLA.
  • Possess expertise in data science techniques and capabilities, including data mining, visualization, predictive analysis, statistics, time series analysis, large language models, and geospatial analytics.
  • Experience leading or mentoring a team of data analysts or scientists.
  • Ensure data science is integrated into GLA decision-making processes, particularly regarding oversight of the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and other relevant areas.
  • Contribute to and present at GLA/MPS corporate meetings and events.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of current trends and advancements in data science.
Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree or higher in a relevant field, such as computer science, statistics, or mathematics. A proven track record of success in applying data science techniques to solve complex problems is essential.

Strong communication and collaboration skills are crucial for this role, as you will be working closely with stakeholders across various departments within the GLA.
