Abatec Recruitment is currently seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to work with a leading Tier 1 Civil Engineering contractor engaged in significant projects within the Thames Water Framework.


The Project Engineer will oversee the project deliverables associated with the schemes awarded under the Client Framework Agreements for Thames Water.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and a proven track record of collaborating with Project Managers to ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget. A solid background in Mechanical and/or Civil engineering projects is essential.


As a Mechanical Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking overall responsibility for coordinating with designers and suppliers to effectively deliver all mechanical aspects across a diverse project portfolio.
  • Collaborating with the commercial team to source all manufactured mechanical components, with a particular emphasis on offsite assembly and modularization.
  • Monitoring the progress of both offsite and onsite activities to ensure adherence to established timelines and financial plans.
  • Fostering a positive team culture and environment to enhance overall wellbeing and performance on your projects.
  • Conducting factory inspections and quality audits to maintain the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction for all mechanical installations.


Our client is looking for a Mechanical Engineer who:

  • Holds a relevant CSCS card.
  • Possesses an SMSTS qualification, with SSSTS as a minimum requirement.
  • Has relevant industry qualifications, such as ONC or HNC.
  • Demonstrates technical knowledge of Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical operations in Water and Waste Water sectors.
  • Brings industry experience in a similar capacity.
  • Exhibits strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, capable of managing multiple tasks while consistently meeting demanding deadlines.
  • Is commercially savvy.
  • Has experience in both pre-production and production mechanical project engineering.
  • Appreciates methodologies such as MMC, Lean Construction, Agile Programme Management, and Production Thinking that enhance programme, cost, and quality performance.
  • Is focused on programming and has the ability to plan and organize resources effectively to ensure timely and complete project delivery.
  • Is certified in First Aid at work.
  • Possesses appropriate IT skills, including proficiency in company software packages.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues and clients in a warm and persuasive manner, adapting style and method to suit the audience.
