Baker Harding Limited is a reputable family-owned enterprise based in Leeds, currently in search of a Field Installation Engineer specializing in Power and Distribution Transformers. This role presents a remarkable opportunity for a seasoned Transformer Engineer to contribute to a prominent manufacturer and supplier of electrical power distribution solutions.

Position Overview:

The primary focus of this role will be on the installation of new transformers and package substations at various sites. Responsibilities will include the fitting, wiring, and testing of both distribution and power transformers. Some preliminary assembly work may also take place at our Leeds facility, along with warranty investigations and routine maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site-based and in-house pre-assembly of diverse types of distribution and power transformers and their associated packages.
  • Prepare for tasks by reviewing assembly instructions, blueprints, pre-assembly images, and parts lists; gather necessary parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials.
  • Assemble components by verifying connections for proper fit and securing parts and subassemblies.
  • Travel to third-party sites across the UK and Europe for equipment assembly and testing.
  • Ensure all equipment is assembled and tested to the highest standards.
  • Act as a customer-facing representative of Baker Harding Limited, delivering exceptional customer service even under pressure.
  • Utilize initiative in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities while maintaining a focus on safety.
  • Interpret and understand mechanical and schematic drawings.
  • Operate general workshop machinery and hand tools relevant to the role.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to address and resolve site-related challenges.
  • Be available for unsociable hours as required to meet customer demands.
  • Stay informed about legislative updates and communications.
  • Adhere to all reasonable requests from Management and Supervisors, including tasks not explicitly outlined in this job description.

Required Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Proven experience in on-site installation of distribution and power transformers and associated packages is essential.
  • Hands-on experience in a mechanical/electrical engineering environment is crucial.
  • Ability to comprehend mechanical and schematic drawings is required.
  • Apprentice-trained or possess a Mechanical/Electrical qualification is essential.
  • Experience with Health & Safety protocols and conducting risk assessments is necessary.
  • ECS accreditation is required.
  • A full UK driving license is essential.
  • Transformer testing experience is desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with customers and resolve issues proactively.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with readiness to attend sites at short notice, including outside regular working hours.
  • Experience in collaborative work with other operations personnel, with a focus on training and enhancing colleagues' skills.
  • Ideally, experience in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Up-to-date training on Overhead Crane/Slinging Lifting certification is preferred.
  • A FLT license is advantageous.
  • IPAF certification is preferred.
