Position Overview:

In this role, you will be responsible for steering the project/programme through its automation design and installation stages until successful completion - the initial phase spans four years.

Key responsibilities include:
- Directing and managing the development and execution of automation design and installation initiatives.
- Collaborating closely with various stakeholders (engineering, operations, IT, HR, legal) to identify automation needs and create cost-effective solutions.
- Crafting and refining comprehensive project plans, timelines, and financial forecasts.
- Leading and mentoring a dedicated team responsible for installation and commissioning.
- Supervising the procurement of essential equipment and materials for automation projects.
- Ensuring adherence to all safety regulations and standards during the installation process.
- Identifying project risks and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Conducting project evaluations and reporting progress to senior management, including executive leadership.
- Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in automation technologies and industry trends.

Core Responsibilities:
- Manage a capital budget of up to £300 million.
- Oversee key performance indicators and contribute to business case development.
- Supervise project installation and provide go-live support.
- Conduct root cause analysis.
- Exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving skills to enhance company processes.
- Manage reporting and stakeholder engagement across Distribution, Property, and Technology.
- Uphold the company's code of conduct, acting with integrity and due diligence.

Flexibility in approach is essential, as you will prioritize and manage multiple projects across various business areas, enhancing customer experiences or streamlining operations through innovative initiatives.

You will be responsible for designing and establishing a comprehensive project organization, consistently reviewing progress to ensure alignment with objectives and scope.

Clear communication and implementation are vital.
You will ensure that all budgets and forecasts are precise, with any issues highlighted promptly.
You will oversee change management processes to guarantee the sustainability of delivered projects.
You will manage risks and issues, establishing and leading a robust governance framework.

Ownership of processes and systems is crucial; you will identify issues and swiftly implement effective solutions.

You will prioritize tasks from dependent teams and adapt to manage the implementation of various projects and programmes that simplify operations.

You will be accountable for project closure and post-implementation reviews, documenting key learnings and sharing insights with stakeholders to foster continuous improvement.

You will ensure a smooth transition from transformation to business-as-usual once projects are finalized.
Collaborating with vendors in a partnership approach is essential.
Requirements:
- Completion of an apprenticeship or possession of Electrical or Mechanical NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualifications.
- Experience in Engineering Project Management.
- Proven track record in designing and implementing automation solutions.
- Strong grasp of project management methodologies (e.g., PMP).
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Familiarity with automation software and hardware is desirable.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience in managing and influencing stakeholders.
