Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom SYSTRA Full time

SYSTRA is a global leader in the planning, design, integration, testing, commissioning, project management, and delivery of mass transit and mobility solutions, serving over 50 million individuals daily. With a legacy spanning more than 60 years, our commitment lies in aiding cities and regions in their development by enhancing and modernizing transport infrastructure, emphasizing sustainability, accessibility, and innovation in our designs. Our team consists of over 10,300 professionals worldwide, with around 1,000 in the UK & Ireland, and we are on a significant growth trajectory, seeking exceptional talent to join our SYSTRA family and lead the charge in infrastructure design.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and ambitious Pre-Contract Commercial Manager to become part of our expanding engineering team. This role is flexible in terms of location and offers hybrid working arrangements. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills, coupled with commercial acumen, and will play a vital role in driving business growth.

Focusing on the design of both High-Speed and conventional rail infrastructure, the successful candidate will also provide support across various Product Lines as needed. The role will be integral to a growing UK team, delivering projects for a diverse array of clients.

The ideal applicant will showcase a wealth of practical experience in commercial project management or providing commercial support in the rail and infrastructure sectors. Experience in reviewing and negotiating contract documents with potential clients and supply chain partners is beneficial; however, we are open to considering candidates with relevant experience in commercial management who are eager to transition into a pre-contract role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing contractual documents, including non-disclosure agreements, memorandums of understanding, teaming agreements, and bespoke or standard professional services contracts (including NEC3/4 PSC/PSSC).
  • Identifying and proposing value engineering opportunities to optimize costs while maintaining quality.
  • Collaborating with the bid team to prepare and review tender submissions.
  • Fostering open and trusting commercial relationships with internal stakeholders, joint venture partners, contractors, and end-user clients.
  • Assisting the Pre-Contract Commercial Team with the commercial requirements of assigned opportunities.
  • Working closely with the SYSTRA legal team on bids for their review and approval of contracts before seeking necessary approvals.
  • Evaluating and analyzing project requirements and associated risks.
  • Conducting commercial risk assessments of bid contract documents, terms, and conditions.
  • Negotiating suitable amendments to contract documents and terms with clients and supply chain partners.
  • Supporting the bidding process, including the negotiation of NDAs, MoUs, teaming agreements, and various service agreements.
  • In collaboration with the Pre-Contract Senior Commercial Manager and Commercial Director, establishing and executing bid/project commercial strategies as appropriate.
  • Facilitating the post-contract handover to the project commercial team, engaging with clients and partners when issues require escalation.
  • Providing monthly commercial reports as needed.
  • Ensuring compliance with SYSTRA's commercial processes, including change management and risk management.

In addition to the responsibilities outlined above, the job holder may be required to undertake other duties as assigned by their manager periodically.

A crucial aspect of this role involves collaborating with resources across projects, from local teams to those based throughout the UK and potentially worldwide.
