English Teacher Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate English teacher to join our dynamic secondary school in Reading. As an English teacher, you will play a vital role in inspiring and engaging our diverse student body with literature and language.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging English lessons in line with the national curriculum, catering to the needs of the whole ability range within the class.
  • Plan, prepare, and present lessons that promote learning and are conducive to the academic and social development of all students.
  • Assess and record students' progress, providing grades and feedback to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, parents, and stakeholders, participating in regular meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development of the school curriculum and extra-curricular activities, particularly those focusing on English and literature.
Requirements:
  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, QTS, or equivalent) with a specialism in English.
  • Experience in teaching English at the secondary level.
  • Strong knowledge of English literature and language curriculum.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to implement effective teaching strategies.
  • Commitment to ongoing educational development and a willingness to learn new teaching methods and strategies.
  • A passion for English literature and language and the ability to inspire and motivate students.
