Job Title: Underwriter - Corporate

We are seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our Corporate team in Manchester or Leeds. As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal business, providing superior service, business retention, and responsiveness to new business submissions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite and assess risk to maximise business growth and profitability for allocated book of business.
  • Make appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority in addition to considered, intelligent and complete recommendations to technical underwriting/business leadership.
  • Provide leadership and coaching, as appropriate, for Associate Underwriter to help with their development and ensure that their roles and responsibilities are delivered.
  • Accountable for accurate underwriting documentation/information in account management systems and adherence to documentation standards.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in other parts of the organisation, including Head Office, Risk Control, Distribution, Claims, Actuarial, etc.
  • Actively engage and seek out training opportunities to further develop underwriting and sales expertise.
  • Working with the Development Underwriter, develop and leverage productive relationships through broker visibility and a disciplined sales management approach.
Requirements:
  • University degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the local insurance marketplace.
  • Demonstrates an ability and desire to learn about the enterprise and business unit critical business issues and financial drivers.
  • General knowledge of organisational and regulatory rules, policies and procedures and effectively employs that knowledge in day-to-day work activities.
  • Basic Product/Technical proficiency commensurate to incumbent's underwriting authority.
  • Demonstrates basic ability in the areas of customer focus and positive broker interaction.
  • Basic ability to effectively coach others and provide feedback that is clear, concise and professional.
  • Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certification preferred.
