Job Summary

This role is part of the Support Services team within the Ministry of Justice. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to the efficient running of the establishment, carrying out manual activities across key areas, and deploying to provide a range of support services within operational areas when required.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Log materials used and assist with stocktaking of tools, equipment, and materials.
  2. Undertake activities to ensure waste reduction and maintain safe, clean, and tidy work areas.
  3. Inform manager to ensure sufficient stock levels are maintained.
  4. Carry out allocated Planned Maintenance and small repairs, undertaking service requests via the computer-aided facilities management system.
  5. Participate in project work when required.
  6. Advise on sufficient stock levels and request procurement of goods and services, ensuring all materials used are logged and fit for purpose.
  7. Escort technical contractors when required, working with and supervising them in accordance with Local Security Strategy (LSS).
  8. Maintain regular communications via radio net in accordance with LSS.
  9. Undertake the role of banksman directing the operation of some plant equipment or machinery.
  10. Be responsible for tools and plant machinery, carrying out checks at regular intervals and completing relevant documentation in accordance with LSS and National Security Framework (NSF).
  11. Comply with Health & Safety policies, procedures, and legislation to ensure statutory and mandatory compliance.
  12. Drive estates vehicles and operate plant equipment.
  13. Operate within command mode in line with local contingency plans.
  14. Undertake incidental and emergency or urgent tasks and assignments as per Service Delivery Agreement timescales in a safe manner.
  15. Assemble products on site when required.
  16. Carry out pest control prevention measures across the estate when required.
  17. Contribute to prisoner reports, including parole and sentence planning.
Requirements

The successful candidate will require basic knowledge and will be required to undertake specific training and courses in these work areas. They will comply with relevant H & S policies and legislation, complete a manual handling course, undertake basic security awareness, and be trained in break-away techniques if deemed required.

Working Arrangements

This role requires working regular unsocial hours, and a 20% payment will be paid in addition to basic pay to recognize this. Unsocial hours are those hours outside Monday to Friday and include working evening, nights, weekends, and Bank/Public holidays.

Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone's circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.
