About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Orthoptist to join our team at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust. As an Orthoptist, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive and high-quality services to patients with eye and vision problems.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide autonomous Orthoptic services, requiring accuracy and acute observations, taking into account the interpretation of a broad range of specialised clinical options.
  • Participate in the clinical supervision and teaching of undergraduate Orthoptic students, medical students, Ophthalmic nurses, optometrists, and other health professionals as required.
  • Contribute to departmental audit and research projects.
  • Carry out visual field perimetry.
  • Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills required to practise as an orthoptist and keep a personal professional development portfolio.
  • Develop post-qualification clinical skills in conjunction with and under the supervision of Senior Orthoptists.

Person Specification
  • Registration with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council)
  • Bachelor of Science in Orthoptics BSc(Orth) BMedSci (Orthoptics) or Diploma from British Orthoptic Council (DBO)
  • Evidence of postgraduate learning (B6)
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Training or experience in Makaton or other sign language communication (B6)
  • Attendance on BIOS Clinical Tutors Course (B6)
