Job Description

Thomas Thor Associates is seeking an experienced Electrical Design and Technical Lead to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership for the engineering assessment, design, and safety justification of the SMR-300 small modular reactor.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead on Electrical Systems Engineering of AC/DC power systems for operational and emergency needs.
  • Develop and implement SMR-300 electrical design strategy for Grid Compliance and 50/60Hz design conversion.
  • Demonstrate SMR-300 Electrical architecture suitability for safety functional claims.
  • Oversight, as Intelligent Customer, of key evidence supporting safety claims.
  • Support the development of the Electrical chapter of the Safety Case for submission in the SMR-300 Generic Design Assessment.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to internal and external organizations, including nuclear regulators.
  • Defend electrical design positions.
  • Provide technical leadership for complex electrical design engineering projects.
Requirements:
  • Experience in nuclear power station electrical system design, specifically on-site distribution (AC and DC), off-site interfaces (substation), grounding and lighting protection, plant lighting systems, battery systems, and diesel generators.
  • Developing nuclear safety functional requirements for electrical systems.
  • Experience with applicable (including nuclear-specific) IEEE, IEC, EPRI, ISA, and ANSI codes and standards.
  • Excellent credentials in principles of electrical engineering.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills - able to present at multiple organizational levels and to external regulatory stakeholders.
