Primary Objective of the Role - (18 Month Fixed Term Contract)

Our supply chain is a vital and integral component of our operations, significantly impacting product quality, delivery efficiency, and competitive edge. Consequently, we are continuously seeking ways to enhance its performance and compliance across our business portfolio.

The Supplier Quality Improvement Lead will:

  • Collaborate with key suppliers to enhance their quality management systems, production methodologies, and capabilities.
  • Oversee supplier quality and delivery performance utilizing continuous improvement strategies, performance assessments, Supplier Performance Tools, Risk & Opportunity Management, and other action plans.
  • Serve as a liaison to enhance the overall operational relationship between Thales and the Supplier, leveraging lessons learned for the mutual improvement of both parties.
  • Identify opportunities for collaborative innovation, co-design, and development, utilizing the respective strengths of both parties for shared benefits.
  • Assist Thales Group initiatives during supplier crisis management situations.

Key Relationships:

  • Collaborate with other members of the Supplier Operations team, including Supplier Development Managers and Supplier Quality Assurance Managers.
  • Engage internally with all functions such as Procurement, Manufacturing, Production Engineering, Quality, Engineering, Finance, Security, HR, and Project Management.
  • Interact with Suppliers and Customers.
  • Connect with the Thales Group SPM Global network.

Required Skills:

Essential:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Effective project management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Risk and Opportunity Management, including the development of robust mitigation strategies.
  • Relationship Management skills, capable of addressing issues at both executive and operational levels.
  • Solid business acumen, with knowledge in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Logistics, and Manufacturing.
  • Facilitation skills within Supplier and Thales entities.
  • Understanding of business and operational planning methodologies such as MRPII, S&OP, and Capacity Management.

Experience:

Essential:

  • Proven track record in managing performance enhancement projects, preferably within Defence, Aerospace, Security, and Transport sectors.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Quality Management principles and systems.
  • Experience in supply chain engineering within a low to medium volume environment, particularly in light mechanical or electro-mechanical production settings.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and practical application of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience in operational management, manufacturing, and ERP systems, including routings, BOMs, Concessions, and Change Requests.
  • Broad process knowledge encompassing machining, assembly (mechanical and electronic), and testing.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and produce high-quality documentation for project and external purposes.
  • Experience working in ISO9001/AS9100 environments.

Desirable:

  • Business acumen with awareness of organizational models, markets, and technologies.
  • Proven history of stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Understanding of practical problem-solving techniques including 8D, DMAIC, and PDCA.
  • Knowledge of Lean and Flow Management principles.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • MCIPS/EIPM certification.

Desirable:

  • Engineering Degree or equivalent, with specialized knowledge in engineering disciplines such as Hardware, Software, or Quality.
