About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled International Biodiversity Consultant to join our global team at SLR. As a key member of our international impact assessment practice area, you will work on a range of projects, including renewable power, infrastructure, mining, and potentially gas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a range of projects, including renewable power, infrastructure, mining, and potentially gas.
  • Work on and manage field site visits, likely to include Africa, Eastern Europe, or Asia.
  • Manage in-country biodiversity specialists during field surveys and reporting.
  • Interpret and apply financial lending standards (IFC PS 6).
  • Design, review, and implement ecological impact assessments, as well as design and review of biodiversity baseline studies.
  • Design and review of biodiversity action plans and biodiversity offset strategies.
  • Write and QA reports for a range of end uses (Due diligence, Environmental Impact Assessment).
  • Prepare proposals showing understanding of the needs of clients.
  • Develop client relationships and input to the business development plan for the international biodiversity team.

About You

We are looking for an experienced and skilled individual who can demonstrate:

  • Experience of working as an ecological consultant outside of the European Union, in a range of countries in at least 2 continents.
  • A wide range of ecological experience, although having a background in field-based ecology research or surveys would be an advantage, as would a particular technical specialism (river ecology, botany, ornithology).
  • A good working knowledge of international conservation frameworks and policies, such as Natural Capital, TNFD, CITES, and IUCN.
  • In-depth experience in applying and interpreting financial lending standards (WBG ESS6, IFC PS6, EBRD PR6).
  • Experience of writing and reviewing critical habitat assessments (required) and ecosystem services assessments (preferable).
  • A good understanding of the concept of biodiversity offset design, and preferably practical experience of biodiversity offset design and implementation.
