Position Title: Senior Site Manager

Division: UK Construction / Construction North

Location: Regional office is Bradford

Reporting to: Contracts Manager

Construction North operates within the UK Construction sector, encompassing the Midlands, the North, and Scotland. Projects typically range from £5 million to £50 million, primarily within the Public Sector, with some engagements in the Private Sector. Key sectors include Leisure, Justice, Defence, Education, Health, and Commercial offices.

Opportunity Overview

This role is for a Senior Site Manager (second in command to project lead) overseeing a project valued at approximately £23 million in the Bishop Auckland area.

Role Objectives

To manage, direct, and support the project delivery team (including designers in Design & Build) in all construction activities, ensuring successful and safe project delivery that meets the expectations of the Client, Stakeholders, and ISG.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exemplary management and leadership of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environment (HSQE) - striving for Target Zero
  • Commitment to a zero defects quality approach
  • Ownership of the project schedule and development of strategies to meet or exceed targets
  • Maximizing profit margins and returns through close collaboration with the project commercial team
  • Ensuring project compliance with the Construction Management System (CMS)
  • Management of subcontractors to meet time, quality, and budget expectations
  • Understanding Client requirements and delivering on set objectives
  • Building and maintaining key customer relationships, including identifying further work opportunities
  • Direct interface with Clients regarding project matters
  • Keeping the line manager consistently informed on key construction issues and solutions
  • Contributing to tender submissions and participating in interviews
  • Setting the standard for HSQE management within the project team
  • Overseeing HSQE induction and reporting procedures, and reporting to the Project Manager/Contracts Manager on all project issues
  • Transforming tender programmes into construction schedules
  • Regularly monitoring programme progress and developing strategies with the project team throughout the contract period
  • Managing the design process and coordinating with the Design Manager
  • Overseeing materials requisition and management by ISG
  • Addressing supply chain performance issues in collaboration with the project team
  • Providing proactive technical support to the project team to resolve challenges while enhancing individual skill sets
  • Leading and presenting monthly internal project reviews
  • Preparing and presenting monthly reports for Clients
  • Ensuring project team adherence to the CMS
  • Maintaining continuous dialogue with Quantity Surveyors to optimize commercial performance
  • Chairing end-of-project review meetings and completing project profiles
  • Fostering relationships with Clients, Stakeholders, and Professional Teams
  • Liaising with local authorities, building control, Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and other external agencies
  • Ensuring comprehensive and up-to-date project records
  • Understanding and embodying ISG's vision and values
  • Promoting fairness, inclusion, and respect among colleagues, clients, and suppliers
Required Skills & Experience
  • Proven track record in successfully delivering projects in new build and/or refurbishment contracts
  • Experience in a similar leadership role as Site Manager
  • Familiarity with various construction methods, including Design and Build
  • Experience in managing relationships with clients, consultants, and suppliers that have led to new opportunities
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to generate profit while maintaining relationships and company values
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills are essential
  • Solid technical knowledge, including building services
  • Comprehensive understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations and practices
  • Excellent customer relationship management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively
  • Capacity to see the broader picture while paying attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic attitude, committed to personal and project success
  • Proactive, diligent, and capable of forward-thinking

  • 5 Day Site Management Safety Training Scheme or equivalent
  • 4 Day First Aid Certificate
  • CSCS Card (Site Manager's or similar)
