Head of Pensions and Treasury

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Head of Pensions and Treasury to join our team at Barnet Council. As the lead officer for the in-house pensions team, you will be responsible for managing the Barnet Local Government Pension Scheme and providing outstanding leadership and direction on all pension-related issues.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement the Pension Fund Committee and Local Pensions Board strategy, supporting elected representatives and providing unfettered advice.
  2. Work with the Scheme Actuary to ensure a cost-efficient funding policy is developed and admissions and cessations are processed promptly.
  3. Effectively govern the Pension Fund, including strategy implementation, risk management, and reporting frameworks.
  4. Oversee the administration of LGPS membership arrangements, meeting key performance targets, resourcing, and compliance.
  5. Prepare and maintain the Treasury Strategy, Policies, and Procedures.
  6. Lead and motivate staff, providing coaching, mentoring, training, and performance management.

Requirements

  1. Experience of a similar role in a large local authority.
  2. Experience of both Pensions and Treasury.
  3. CIPFA (or other CCAB) qualified.
