Job Overview

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Council is seeking a dedicated Civil Engineering Surveyor to enhance our Investment and Compliance Team. This position offers a full-time, permanent opportunity with a competitive salary ranging from £42,403 to £49,498 per annum (pro rata for part-time).

Key Responsibilities

As a Civil Engineering Surveyor, you will report directly to the Head of Investment and Compliance. Your primary responsibilities will include overseeing the civil engineering functions associated with BMSDC housing and corporate assets. This encompasses a variety of projects such as sewage treatment facilities, pumping stations, drainage systems, and parking areas.

This role will also require participation in an out-of-hours call-out rota.

Candidate Profile

  • A degree in surveying accredited by RICS or at least an HNC qualification alongside a NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety.
  • Proven experience as a Surveyor with a comprehensive understanding of relevant building legislation, including CDM and Health and Safety regulations.
  • Strong technical expertise in housing properties, including their construction and service components, as well as familiarity with building defects and solutions.
  • Ability to accurately estimate building costs and a proven track record of effective problem-solving.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a focus on detail.
  • A valid driving license is essential for fulfilling the responsibilities of this role.

Essential Experience

  • Significant experience in managing both housing and corporate stock.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Autodesk, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and MicroStation.
  • Experience in civil engineering within the social housing sector or a related field.
  • Capability to deliver civil engineering projects in alignment with the RIBA Plan of Work Framework.
  • Experience in managing substantial budgets effectively.
  • Familiarity with map creation and photo imaging software.
  • Understanding of statutory and regulatory requirements pertaining to civil engineering.
  • Knowledge of contract law and building regulations.
  • Experience in contract procurement and mobilization.
  • Strong numerical and data analysis skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, along with decisive decision-making skills.
  • Proficient project and contract management capabilities.
