About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Audit Group Manager to join our Assurance team at the Information Commissioner's Office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the development and delivery of our assurance services, ensuring that our clients receive high-quality support and guidance in meeting their information rights obligations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the Assurance department, aligning with the ICO's corporate plans and emerging areas of information rights risk.
  • Programme Management: Oversee the development of the annual programme of work across both public and private sector organisations, ensuring effective allocation of resources and delivery of high-quality services.
  • Team Management: Manage and develop Team Managers and staff within the department, including monitoring and reviewing individual performance, and supporting individual development.
  • Audit Leadership: Oversee audit teams in high-priority, technically complex Assurance work, including audits and follow-up work, particularly in relation to the GDPR and DPA 2018.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise clearly and confidently with internal and external stakeholders to plan, agree, schedule, and deliver Assurance activities, and act as a key point of contact for these activities where required.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the effective allocation of resources to deliver the department's services and activities, and take ownership of deliverables produced by the department for internal and external stakeholders.
Person Specification
  • Substantial Experience: Substantial experience relevant to the role requirements, as described in the role responsibilities and person specification, and accumulated through any combination of academic or vocational qualifications or experience.
  • Compliance Experience: Experience of conducting compliance audits or assessments, and managing teams operating in a compliance assessment environment.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to lead significant projects, and excellent intellectual and analytical ability in order to apply complex legislation to a variety of practical circumstances.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent standard of literacy and effective written communication skills, and ability to rapidly assimilate and digest large volumes of information.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate and maintain good relations with senior staff in external organisations.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to work under pressure, prioritise, and handle large workloads, and develop and manage staff performance.
