About the Role

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Team Lead to join our team at Hays Technology. As the Head of Software Development, you will be responsible for leading a large central software engineering team and driving the development of high-quality software solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Strategic Leadership: Lead the software engineering team and provide strategic direction to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions.
  2. Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work with stakeholders at all levels to anticipate needs, provide strategic advice, and deliver effective software programmes.
  3. Manage the Software Team: Lead and manage the software team, offering development plans, and motivating team members to achieve their full potential.
  4. Transform Business Activities: Transform the organisation's activities through modern software, data, and simulation solutions.
  5. Best Practices: Work across the organisation to highlight and provide guidance on best practices for software development.

Requirements:

  1. Coding Languages: Proficient in coding languages such as C++, Python, Fortran, and Java.
  2. Education: Holds a PhD or M.Sc in STEM, comfortable managing academics and researchers.
  3. People Management: Significant people management experience in varied teams and the ability to define and establish new abilities and develop others as a leader.
  4. Software Engineering: Substantial experience in software engineering in an R&D environment, including responsibility for managing software team(s).
  5. Software Tools: Extensive experience with software tools, including version control, editors, DevOps, and planning.
  6. Software Engineering Practices: Excellent understanding of modern software engineering practices.
  7. Software Technologies: Broad familiarity with a wide range of software and data technologies and approaches.
  8. Agile Environment: Ability to establish and work in an Agile/SCRUM environment.
  9. Communication: Ability to communicate, build trust, and influence at all levels.
